Museum of Sex and Health-Innocence Lost

October 4, 2010

The truth is, I devoted one  entire day on Jeju-do to SEX.  I don’t know why… I guess I was just in the mood. After my somewhat whimsical adventure in Loveland, I was unprepared for the graphic nature of  The Museum of Sex and Health. Raunchy sex toys, explicit video, corrupt Japanese Anime action figures, fantasy re-enactment and classic pornographic literature all housed within the architecturally superior walls of the most fascinating museum I have ever visited. I can now say with complete certainty that Jeju-do stole my innocence.

Can you imagine being a curator in this museum? Note the obvious popularity of some of the more explicit items. Based on the wear and tear of the exhibits, they appear to be borrowed or donated.

I was born and raised in small town Minnesota, a very wholesome environment. The local Kmart did not offer a very comprehensive selection of sex paraphernalia. We were grateful when the corner convenience store stocked a condom vending machine in the bathroom.

I once asked my co-teacher/pal Hyeun-Jin what she considered to be a great source of pride among native Koreans.    Her response, “Koreans are able to do amazing things with their hands. ”  Note the fine Korean craftmanship of this dress made entirely of Maxi Pads.

Here we  are looking at a re-enactment of the classic tale, Gulliver’s TravelsIn this scene Gulliver’s mistress is captured by the voyeuristic Lilliputians and held hostage.

I have a theory that little girls and grown men both love dolls.  In very different ways!

No sex tour would be complete without the perfunctory Geisha.

As promised, some classic literature.

Including a gripping  and insightful journal, I am sure!

And of course, the Japanese Anime Action Figures.

Based on the extensive collection of Anime on display, it seems the Japanese have created a figure to represent every fetish.

I suspect this poor Anime appeals to those with a clumsy fetish. Poor little thing.

There is nothing sexier than a women sitting on a toilet.

This concludes our trip to The Museum of Sex and Health. I hope it was as entertaining and informative for you as it was for me.

As I was leaving the museum I couldn’t help but reflect upon another popular childrens tale set in a museum,  starring Ben Stiller.

Can you imagine spending a night at this museum?

Actually, there is a term approximating “Clumsy Fetish” in Japanese: Dojikko. This is one of the useless facts you can learn when you hang out with a lot of cartoonists.

WOW- awesome! You got quite an intense education there. They must have contracted abroad to get some of that stuff. Thanks for posting– I love it!
